Whole School Positive Behaviour Support
Atwell Primary Independent Public School believes a positive school environment is an integral part to building and maintaining appropriate and productive behaviour standards. We aim to create an environment where students, staff and families have a sense of belonging and they feel supported and cared for by the school staff. Our focus will be to encourage the development of self-disciplined students who are able to positively interact in the learning opportunities offered at our school.
There are various initiatives that support the development of a positive learning environment across Atwell Primary Independent Public School.
They include:
A clear vision statement and school ethos
Guiding behaviour principles and school and classroom expectations
Health and Wellbeing focus through the initiatives such as Act, Belong, Committ and KidsMatter as well as the teaching and learning programs aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum
Opportunities for leadership roles in Year 6
School assemblies and whole school events
After School Enrichment Program (ASEP)
Targeted behaviour and self-esteem plans as required
We build a culture that promotes a safe and caring school environment where students are taught to become respectful and independent learners.
In order to achieve this we:
Have established a set of expected behaviours that are explained to students throughout the course of the school year
Have developed a Responsible Behaviour Support Plan that details how students can learn to self-regulate their behaviour and appreciate the educational benefits of striving for their personal best and allowing others to do the same
Encourage and support students to make positive resolutions to conflicts.
Deliver teaching programs to explicitly teach and develop resiliency skills.
Good Standing
At Atwell Primary school ‘Good Standing’ supports our values of Respect People and Place, Personal Excellence, Inclusion and Fair Go and Resilience.
‘Good Standing’ is a part of and works in conjunction with the whole school Responsible Behaviour Support Plan for students and aims to provide regular acknowledgement and recognition for the majority of students who consistently behave and act according to the standards within school behaviour, attendance and dress policies.
All Atwell students receive ‘Good Standing’ status when they:
Comply with our Responsible Behaviour Support Plan, classroom policies and procedures.
Follow the Attendance Policy
Follow the Dress Policy
Follow the ICT acceptably usage agreement
‘Good Standing’ status will be withdrawn, following consultation with the school administration and classroom teacher, should it be determined they have not met these standards. Loss of privilege resulting from a loss of Good Standing may include sporting carnivals and competitions, camp, excursions, dinner dance or others as determined.
Regaining ‘Good Standing’:
Students have an opportunity to regain good standing through demonstration of consistent responsible behaviours over a period of time determined by teachers and school administration.
