Parental Custody Concerns

Teacher Interview Days and Learning Journeys
Atwell Primary School has introduced a full-day school closure to support meaningful parent-teacher interviews.
The Department of Education has acknowledged that half‑day closures do not allow enough time for deep, purposeful conversations, with short interview slots being too limited. This aligns with the feedback we collected after our 2025 interviews from our parent community and staff. Approximately 80% of schools in the Cockburn Central Education Network have moved to the full‑day closure model in 2026.
We understand a full‑day closure can be challenging for some families. Camp Australia will be available for those requiring care.
Parent–teacher interviews play a vital role in each child’s learning journey, and this change ensures teachers have the time required for meaningful discussions with families.
Our annual Learning Journey is held for students in Kindy through to Year 6 in Term 3. This provides parents and caregivers with the opportunity to visit your child's classroom so they can share and celebrate with you what they have been learning through the year.
Details of the afternoon's schedule will be sent to families prior to the event. As there will be no teaching staff on playground duty during the Learning Journey, you are asked to please ensure your children are supervised at all times whilst on the school grounds. Students should not be on the play equipment during this time.
