Technology in Teaching and Learning
Technology plays an important role in our school’s teaching and learning programs as it helps us prepare students for a future where digital skills, creativity and adaptability are essential. The Department of Education emphasises that every student should become a confident and capable user of technology, with learning that is personalised and enriched through digital tools.
Digital technologies, such as iPads, allow teachers to tailor learning to individual needs, provide access to high‑quality resources and give students multiple ways to show their understanding. Technology also helps teachers collect and analyse learning data more efficiently so they can support each child’s progress.
How iPads Are Used at School
At school, an iPad is a purposeful learning tool. Students use it to:
Explore new ideas and apply creative thinking.
Engage with curriculum content in interactive and meaningful ways.
Collaborate with peers on problem‑solving tasks.
Create and communicate their learning using a range of apps.
Build digital citizenship skills, including safe, ethical and responsible online behaviour.
These uses reflect the Department’s focus on students becoming empowered creators and critical users of technology who actively use digital tools to achieve learning outcomes
How iPad Use at Home May Differ
While the iPad is a structured learning device at school, we acknowledge that at home it may serve a very different purpose. Families often use iPads for entertainment, social connection and personal interests. These uses can be positive, but they differ from the intentional, curriculum‑aligned learning tasks that occur at school. For this reason, we encourage parents to help children recognise the difference between “iPad for learning” and “iPad for leisure.” Establishing these boundaries supports healthy digital habits and reinforces students’ understanding of responsible technology use—an important part of the Department of Education ICT Vision’s emphasis on wellbeing, cyber safety and ethical behaviour.

Our Overall Approach
By integrating technology thoughtfully and purposefully, we aim to create rich, engaging and future‑focused learning experiences. At school, iPads are tools that support creativity, communication, critical thinking and curriculum achievement, while also helping students develop the digital skills they need for the future. At home, iPads may continue to offer enjoyment and connection, and with balanced, mindful use, they can further reinforce healthy digital habits. Together, school and home can help students build confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning through positive and meaningful use of technology.
