Our 1:1 iPad Program for Years 3–6
At Atwell Primary School, we are committed to preparing students for a world where digital skills and confident technology use are essential. The ICT Capability is embedded across the Western Australian Curriculum and supports students to “participate in a knowledge based economy and to be empowered within a technologically sophisticated society.” Our 1:1 iPad program for Years 3–6 plays an important role in helping us achieve this goal.
Supporting Our Vision for Students
Our vision is to develop well rounded young citizens who have a passion for lifelong learning. We want our students to be engaged, capable 21st century learners who use technology as a natural tool for learning, thinking and creating.
Through regular, meaningful use of technology, students build key 21st century learning skills such as:
Critical thinking
Creativity
Communication
Collaboration
These skills help them to learn effectively today and prepare them for future study, work and life.
Why 1:1 iPads?
To support this vision, each student in Years 3–6 is asked to bring their own iPad to school. Having their own device:
Ensures consistent access to digital learning tools
Supports personalised learning at each child’s level
Helps teachers plan rich, interactive lessons
Encourages creativity across all learning areas
Builds independence, organisation and digital confidence
We have chosen the iPad platform because of its ease of use, strong security features, long term reliability, and the wide range of high quality educational apps available. Its built in accessibility tools also support diverse learners, helping every child participate.
Using Technology Purposefully
Students use iPads across all learning areas, engaging in activities that develop problem solving, collaboration and creativity. Whether they are researching, creating videos, coding, designing presentations or responding to feedback, the iPad enhances learning in meaningful, age appropriate ways.
