At Atwell Primary School, we are committed to providing a safe, positive and focused learning environment that reflects our school ethos and values. To support this, we follow the Department of Education’s Student Mobile Phones in Public Schools Policy, which states that mobile phones may only be used for medical purposes or under direct teacher instruction.
Key Expectations (Kindergarten – Year 6)
Students must not have mobile phones in their possession during the school day.
All devices must be turned off on arrival and handed to the classroom teacher for safe keeping until the end of the day.
Students must put their smart watches in 'aeroplane mode' so phone calls and messages cannot be received during the school day.
While every care is taken, the school cannot accept responsibility for personal devices. Families choose to send devices at their own risk.
Approved Use
Mobile phones may only be used when:
Required to monitor a health condition documented in a school health care plan, or
A teacher gives permission for a specific educational activity.
Contacting Your Child
If you need to reach your child during school hours, please contact the front office. Messages will be passed on by school staff, ensuring there is no need for mobile phone access during the school day.
If Students Do Not Follow the Policy
First breach: The phone will be confiscated, taken to the office, and parents will be contacted to collect it at the end of the day.
Second breach: The student will be required to hand the phone in at the office each morning and collect it each afternoon for the remainder of the term.
Thank you for supporting this policy and helping us maintain a calm, focused learning environment. By working together, we ensure our students can learn, play and connect without unnecessary distractions. Your partnership is greatly appreciated.
